Michelle Wilson, MD
Masterpiece history begins in 1975, the year Ted Wilson started writing and recording gospel music. He accepted Jesus Christ December 17, 1971, which compelled him to leave secular music. At the time he was a member of a fast rising male group called the New Yorkers. The group was formed by him during his freshman year at Hampton Institute (now Hampton University), This lead to relationships with various musicians, songwriters, and individuals involved in the music industry. Under their tutoring and exposure he developed his music writing skills. In the summer of 1971, The NYers were asked to audition in Washington, DC for a possible recording contract. It was during a night engagement Ted felt the pull of the Holy Spirit leading him away from a lifestyle he knew for him was wrong!
He left the group which he started and turned down a songwriters contract and possible artist deal with a major label.
Ted took what he had learned and began using it for the Lord. He worked with his local church and various choirs, groups, and individual vocalist in the Rochester-Buffalo, NY area. By 1983 he was blessed to established Masterpiece Christian Recording, a 16 track audio studio. He also produced a 1/2 hour weekly Christian entertainment television program. This all came to an end in 1987 when he left Rochester after 16 years with Eastman Kodak. He moved to Toledo, OH to switch careers from chemistry to medicine. During his 7 years in Toledo he remained active in his church but due to the demands of medicine could not maintain his link to the music industry. In 1990 he married one of his classmates, Michelle an accomplished flutist with a strong musical background. In 1994 both completed their residency training in Family Medicine. They moved to North Carolina to help start a community health center for the underserved. Both with a strong love for Gospel music and ministry felt it was time to move forward with Ted's dream of owning a record company. In 1996 Masterpiece Christian Records was established with a vision to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ using individuals who love people and God! In 1998 the label released their first projects, James Bellamy and the TC Ensemble, "Let Your Spirit Fill This Place" and Ron Surrey's "Rhapsody In Spirit".
